I'm not professionally engaged by Pine so I don't have any inside info on what her responses might be to your questions. I've only met her a couple of times, but was favorably impressed. If Eric viewed her as a potential rival to Berg (and his own former staff position) it would certainly explain his "preemptive" smear activities against her. He seems to present them as allies and co-conspirators though.
I do know Ryan, however, although I have never met him personally. He was working with Cliff Slater as part of the Stop Rail Now effort back in '07 and '08. Cliff apparently fired him, but he kept at it on his own. Eric was particularly nasty in his attacks on individuals with the city administration. We pretty much just blew it off as normal flak, but I did file a police complaint over a forged email in 2008, that I felt was a clear violation of the harassment by impersonation law. It was faked to look like it came from me and the Hannemann Campaign and was meant to incriminate us with some slanderous website that wasn't ours. the forged email was later traced to Eric Ryan by the police and prosecutor's office. He lied about this profusely to the media, claiming that he had proof that I had in fact authored the fake email right to the bitter end.
No matter what conclusive evidence of his wrongdoing is presented, Eric maintains he is the "victim" of some bizarre conspiracy. My personal assessment is that there is a serious personality disorder in play here.Since my run-in with him, his professional relationships seemed to always end the same way.According to quotes and attributions from recent articles in HawaiiReporter, KGMB News and CivilBeat, here's how Eric Ryan fared with his last three employers:
John Carroll (Candidate for Governor) / Ryan Fired as Campaign Manager"He should be locked up in an insane asylum.”“He also forged my signature on a contract and tried to use that to extort me for more money, even though it was very clear forgery.”
Kym Pine (State Representative) / Ryan Fired as Consultant
"He's trying to hurt my family and my family name"“Pine said Ryan threatened to destroy her career so she would never be able to run for office again. She told police he tried to break into her bank records.”“Ryan tried to extort money from her and force her to keep him on as her web designer from now until 2012 and retaliated when she refused.”
Tom Berg (City Councilman) / Ryan Fired as Chief of Staff"This guy would wake up every morning looking to hurt people"He called Ryan a "madman" and a "professional extortionist"
Proceed with caution, Carroll. And, don't hire him to do your website!

I
just waded through Eric's latest web offering. Sounds like a garden-variety, "he said" "she said" small claims dispute. Why all the drama? The amounts are well below the limits for small claims court...if he, as he claims, is owed money, why didn't he take this to SCC in January? I don't get it.

I can only speak with authority on my personal involvement with Ryan and it was sufficient to come to a very clear understanding of his character and ethics. The fact that every major client who has done business with him the past few years has come to an equally negative conclusion should tell you something. Ryan's damaged reputation is his own doing, not the result of being "mobbed."
